Job Description for Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Part-time
Covered Shifts: Saturday AND Sunday 12 hour shifts. Day Shift
Must work at least 24 hours during this period
Specifics:
- Weekly committed hours will be based on weekend program hours plus any additional shifts agreed to work on week days divided by 4 weeks. For example, if you sign up for working 24 hours on the weekend program then your weekly committed hours will be 24x3/4 week= 18 hours per week.
- Pay rates as follows:
- Intended for 1 year commitment to this program.
- Weekend and shift differentials do not apply to weekend program hours
- Must work three out of every four weekends
- Lose weekend program pay if more than 3 call-ins in 12 months.
- Can pick up a shift during the week but cannot trade it for a weekend shift.
- Shifts worked in addition to your committed weekend program hours will be paid at a base pay rate with differentials.
- You will be scheduled to work any holidays that fall on your normal weekend.Holiday pay on the weekend program is paid at one and half times your weekend program rate.
- Time off requests cannot be accepted for holidays or weekends, the employee is responsible for finding a trade or replacement for their shift.
- ETO will be earned at the normal rate based on longevity. ETO can’t not be used for holiday or weekend shifts.ETO buyback can be requested and will be paid out at the base rate.
Scope of Position: The purpose of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) position is to provide each of the assigned residents with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the resident’s care plan and with the policies and procedures of this facility under the direction of the (a.)Lead CNA (b.)Unit Coordinator (c.)Charge Nurse (R.N./L.P.N.) (d.)Assistant Director of Nursing (e.)Director of Nursing or (f.)Administrator, to assure that the highest degree of quality of resident care is provided at all times.
Qualifications:
- Ability to read, and speak the English language
- State Certification(mandatory) as a Nursing Assistant
- If not certified, must have completed the certification class and pass the competency testing within 120 days of employment.
- Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile people.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide personal care to residents in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort consistent with Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka clinical policies and procedures as well as state/federal guidelines and regulations. Including a minimum of the following:
- Total hygiene
- Assist with dressing residents
- Vital signs: pulse, respiration, temperature
- Turning and positioning of residents
- Rehabilitative and restorative measures
- Serve residents in the dining room and feed residents
- Provide measures for comfort and relief of anxiety
- Use appropriate safety measures
- Promptly respond to resident’s call lights
- Transport residents to various departments and activities.
2. Promotes and supports the greatest possible degree of independence for residents.
3. Reports residents’ status to supervising charge nurse at beginning and end of shift.
4. Complies with requirements of procedures for safe lifting and/or safe transfer of residents per established policies and procedures.
5. Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, attractive environment for the residents including:
- Maintaining order and cleanliness of resident rooms and common areas.
- Keep floors clear of objects and clean up spillage to prevent accidents and odors.
- Routinely clean equipment.
6. Ability to function independently and as a role model to others to create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility.
7. Assists with training and mentoring new employees as necessary.
8. Using electronic charting system, accurately document your care of and observations regarding the residents during your shift.
9. Indicates by performance competency in all 21 Basic CNA Competency Skills.
10. Indicates by performance competency in all other skills where special training is provided, including resident handling, mechanical lift operation, and charting per ECS system.
11. All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

- Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information to assure resident rights are protected.

- Must be able to spend approximately 80% of the time walking, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching and lifting.
- Must be able to spend approximately 20% of the time sitting.
- Must be able to routinely lift and/or move at least 50 pounds.
- Must be able to push/pull up to 200 lbs on a routine basis.
- Must be able to carry up to 15 lbs on a routine basis.
- Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately.
- Must be able to use a computer, phone, etc. as required.
- May be exposed to blood or to the body fluids, fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
