Scope of Position:  The Staff Accountant is responsible for processing resident billing, managing all receivables, handling cash receipts,  maintaining records for Medicare and Medicaid, assist in preparing financial statements, and data entry

 Qualifications:

  1. Associates or Bachelors degree in Accounting or Business field
  2. Two years experience in bookkeeping position.
  3. Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
  4. Computer knowledge/experience required.
  5. Must be organized, self-motivated, and able to work under time limit pressures.
  6. Possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and the general public.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Processes all monthly billings
    1. Private pay – statements sent to appropriate party itemizing all ancillary charges.
    2. Bills Medicare Part A and B.
    3. Bills Medicare Part A and B co-insurance to resident’s responsible party.
  2. Prices nursing supplies, summarizes nursing supply charges, PT charges, transportation charges and personal purchases.  Posts to resident accounts.

     

  3. Records all cash received including Medicaid and Medicare payments to resident accounts and the general ledger.  Prepares bank deposit and reconciles cash receipts.

     

  4. Records census changes including room and level of care changes.

     

  5. Keeps current on Medicare and Medicaid billing issues, including updating Medicare fee schedules and RUG rates.

     

  6. Submits complete and accurate billings to Medicare for payment.

     

  7. Reviews and verifies all monthly IDPA billings and submits monthly bedhold days.  Completes Form 1156 for appropriate circumstances.

     

  8. Prepares various accounts receivable reports including month-end reports for the Business Manager and cost report information annually.
  9. Matches invoices with packing slips and purchase orders.  Enters invoices into the system, posting to the appropriate general ledger accounts.
  10. Releases invoices for payments in a timely manner and issues checks for Administrator’s review and signature.
  11. Monitors checking account balance and notifies Administrator of need to transfer funds to and from NOW account to maximize interest earnings.
  12. Manages resident banking program.

     

  13. Submits MDS information to the State.

     

  14. Maintains knowledge and ability to work in time clock software to edit and correct punches in preparation for payroll.

     

  15. Reviews, enters, and deposits memorial contributions and church collections.

     

  16. Performs all other tasks as assigned.

  9. Practices safe work habits and reports all accidents/incidents, regardless of how minor, to immediate supervisor as soon as they occur and completes required incident report.
  10. Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information to assure resident rights are protected
