Activity Aide - Part time

Hours: 

Every Friday 3:30pm-8:30pm and every other Sunday 8:30am-12:30pm 

 

Scope of Position:  The primary purpose of the Activity Assistant position is to assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing Activity programs in accordance with local, state and federal standards, guidelines, regulations and facility policies as directed by the Activity Director to assure that the spiritual development, emotional, recreational, and social needs of the residents are met/maintained on an individual basis.

 

Qualifications:

  1. High school education or equivalent.
  2. Have aptitude for and some training in arts, crafts and baking/cooking.
  3. Ability to read, write and clearly speak the English language.
  4. Demonstrate interest and/or knowledge in activity programming for the ill, disabled and/or elderly.
  5. Possess the ability to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, personnel, government agencies and the public.
  6. Must have patience, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever cognitive level they are currently functioning.
  7. Be very dependable and be a self-starter, able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
  8. Be able to lead both large and small groups.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Accept and support our philosophy of providing loving care in the spirit of Christ.
  2. Assist in the planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the activity programs of this facility.
  3. Assure that all activity procedures are followed in accordance with established policies.
  4. Provide bedside activities and follow-up for residents unable to attend regularly scheduled activities.
  5. Carry out planned activity program(s) on a given floor or assigned area.
  6. Meet with other related departments in planning activities.
  7. Assist in developing and maintaining a good working rapport with other departments within the facility, and outside community to assure that the activity programs can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
  8. Complete documentation including tracking of both individual and group activities and one on one visits daily.
  9. Familiarize and follow the Activity plan of care for each resident that identifies the problem(s) and/or need(s) of the residents and an appropriate goal.
  10. Report all concerns and/or complaints made by a resident or their family member to the Activity Director or Administrator.
  11. Attend activity staff meeting scheduled to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas and/or the improvement of service and to meet the required amount of continued education.
  12. Must maintain equipment and supplies in good order. Prepare materials and supplies needed for daily programs. Must notify the Activity Director when repairs are needed and at least 48-hour advance noticed when materials or supplies are needed for a scheduled activity.
  13. Under the supervision of the Activity Director, help to plan the monthly activity calendar. Have bulletin boards on floor decorated by the first of each month and update daily activity boards each morning.
  14. Welcome and orient new residents who are assigned to their area and complete an Initial Assessment on that resident within three (3) days of admission.
  15. Invite, encourage and motivate residents to attend and participate in planned activities using appropriate motivational techniques.
  16. Activities are to be announced 15 minutes before their time to start and must be started on time.Activity Assistants may not cancel groups unless Activity Director gives prior approval.
  17. Assist with departmental housekeeping duties, including but not limited to, cleaning activity room, properly putting away supplies at the end of each day, organizing and maintaining closest and cupboards and assist Activity Director with other specialty rooms related to activities.
  18. Must function independently, have work flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively and harmoniously with residents, family members, co-workers, volunteers and support agencies.
  19. Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

  6. Report for work every scheduled day, on time and follow rules for the time clock
  7. Respond to staffing needs of the department including calls for help when short staffed
  8. Participate in department meetings and maintain appropriate number of in-service hours.
  9. Practices safe work habits and reports all accidents/incidents, regardless of how minor, to immediate supervisor as soon as they occur and completes required incident report.
  10. Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information to assure resident rights are protected.

  1. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. Frequently required to walk or stand for long periods of time.
  2. May be required to lift equipment, set up tables, and occasionally move furniture.
  3. Occasionally required to sit, use hands and/or fingers, and reach with arms and hands.
  4. Occasionally require to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  5. Must be able to push/pull up to 200 lbs on a routine basis.
  6. Ability to utilize a computer, phone, etc as required.
  7. Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately
  8. Occasionally exposed to blood or to the body fluids, fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
