Our nurses have the opportunity to build relationships with our residents as they assess resident needs, assist in planning of care for independence and mobility of residents and administer mediations/treatments as prescribed by physician.

Additionally, our nurses assign, supervise and evaluate care given by CNAs on the unit in an environment that conveys trust & dependability with co-workers.

Scope of Position: The charge nurse is responsible for the assisting in planning, organizing, developing, and directing nursing care according to all guidelines and regulations and following established policies and procedures to assure that the highest quality of patient care is maintained.

Qualifications:
1. Must be a graduate from an accredited nursing school and hold a valid license in the State of Illinois.
2. Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
3. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile people.

Job Responsibilities:
1. Assures quality of care through ongoing resident assessment and appropriate invention in accordance with facility policies and State/Federal guidelines and regulations.
2. Administers medication/treatments as prescribed by physician.
3. Assists in planning of care to attain and/or maintain the highest possible level of health, independence and mobility of the resident.
4. Documents nurses’ notes regularly to assure continuity of care and provide up-to-date information for physicians, consultants, nursing staff and other healthcare providers.
5. Assures that each resident’s accident or incident is fully documented and reported in accordance with facility policies and State/Federal guidelines and regulations.
6. Assures that each resident’s attending physician and/or responsible party is promptly notified of any significant change in the resident’s health condition.
7. Completes various resident assessments in a timely manner including admission, readmission and discharge assessments.
8. Contributes to the orientation of new staff members and the ongoing mentoring of CNAs.
9. Assigns, supervises and evaluates care given on the assigned unit to assure efficient functioning of the facility and improve quality of care.
10. Ensures that all nursing personnel under her/his supervision comply with the procedures set forth in the facility policies and procedures.
11. Assists in the evaluation of nursing assistants and any necessary counsel/discipline in accordance with facility policies.
12. Ensures a safe environment is maintained in accordance with the facility’s Disaster and OSHA Manual and all State and Federal guidelines and regulations.
13. Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit.
14. Develop and maintain a good working rapport within the nursing department as well as with other departments.
15. Performs other duties and tasks as may be assigned by the Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing or Administrator.

6. Report for work every scheduled day, on time and follow rules for the time clock.
7. Respond to staffing needs of the department including calls for help when short staffed.
8. Participate in department meetings and maintain appropriate number of in-service hours.
9. Practices safe work habits and reports all accidents/incidents, regardless of how minor, to immediate supervisor as soon as they occur and completes required incident report.
10. Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information to assure resident rights are protected.

1. Must be able to spend approximately 75% of the time walking, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching and lifting.
2. Must be able to spend approximately 25% of the time sitting.
3. Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
4. Must be able to push/pull up to 200 lbs on a routine basis.
5. Must be able to carry up to 15 lbs on a routine basis.
6. Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately.
7. Must be able to use a computer, phone, etc. as required.
8. May be exposed to blood or to the body fluids, fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
