Job Description for Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Full-time & Part-time

   

 
 

Scope of Position:  The purpose of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) position is to provide each of the assigned residents with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the resident’s care plan and with the policies and procedures of this facility under the direction of the (a.)Lead CNA (b.)Unit Coordinator (c.)Charge Nurse (R.N./L.P.N.) (d.)Assistant Director of Nursing (e.)Director of Nursing or (f.)Administrator, to assure that the highest degree of quality of resident care is provided at all times. 

Qualifications:

  1. Ability to read, and speak the English language
  2. State Certification(mandatory) as a Nursing Assistant
  3. If not certified, must have completed the certification class and pass the competency testing within 120 days of employment.
  4. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile people.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Provide personal care to residents in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort consistent with Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka clinical policies and procedures as well as state/federal guidelines and regulations.  Including a minimum of the following:

 

2. Promotes and supports the greatest possible degree of independence for residents.

3. Reports residents’ status to supervising charge nurse at beginning and end of shift.

4. Complies with requirements of procedures for safe lifting and/or safe transfer of residents per established policies and procedures.

5. Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, attractive environment for the residents including:

    6. Ability to function independently and as a role model to others to create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility.

    7. Assists with training and mentoring new employees as necessary.

    8. Using electronic charting system, accurately document your care of and observations regarding the residents during your shift.

    9. Indicates by performance competency in all 21 Basic CNA Competency Skills.

    10. Indicates by performance competency in all other skills where special training is provided, including resident handling, mechanical lift operation, and charting per ECS system.

    11. All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

  6. Report for work every scheduled day, on time and follow rules for the time clock.
  7. Respond to staffing needs of the department including calls for help when short staffed.
  8. Participate in department meetings and maintain appropriate number of in-service hours.
  9. Practices safe work habits and reports all accidents/incidents, regardless of how minor, to immediate supervisor as soon as they occur and completes required incident report.
  10. Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information to assure resident rights are protected.

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions

  1. Must be able to spend approximately 80% of the time walking, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching and lifting.
  2. Must be able to spend approximately 20% of the time sitting.
  3. Must be able to routinely lift and/or move at least 50 pounds.
  4. Must be able to push/pull up to 200 lbs on a routine basis.
  5. Must be able to carry up to 15 lbs on a routine basis.
  6. Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately.
  7. Must be able to use a computer, phone, etc. as required.
  8. May be exposed to blood or to the body fluids, fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
